Home Page

Pete,

Sorry for the delay. I wanted the prototype site to be complete before sending to you; I think it’s ready now.

This prototype site contains the basic structure I’m seeking and comes preloaded with some scripting and functionality. The work I’m requesting that you do is what you suggested in the Blocs forum, i.e., use toggle visibility with classes (it’s a little over my head). The Product C page contains a mock up of the site structure with plenty of lorem ipsum bla, bla, bla. Feel free to kick some tires on that page and to look at the code I already added. I also added duplicate pages—for the sake of this prototype—derived from the Product C page—to show what each of the colored-circle icons is supposed to do.

Nutshell of desired outcome: Have each of the above colored circles, which are shown horizontally in the header and thus appear on every page, toggle various visibilities as follows:

🔴 Show only content styled with the h1, h1-summary, or sub-navigation classes.

🟢 Show only content styled with the h1, h2, h3, h4, h5, or sub-navigation classes.

🔵 Show only content styled with classes h1 (but not h1-summary), h2, h2-summary, h3, h3-summary, h4, h4-summary, h5, h5-summary, or subnavigation.

🟡 Show all content except those with classes: h1-summary, h2-summary, h3-summary, h4-summary, h5-summary, detail-1, or detail-2.

🟣 Show all content except those with classes: h1-summary or detail-2.

So basically, each of the above circles, when pushed, would toggle visibility for content preloaded on the page. The 🟣 filter should be the default view when a page loads such as when linked from another page. And the header and footer should remain visible on all pages regardless of filter/view.

A couple more key points:

1) Regardless of the view, i.e., 🔴, 🟢, 🔵, 🟡, or 🟣, the user should be able to click an expand (🔽) or collapse (🔼) button where such button exists such as I have prototyped throughout the various Product-C page iterations.

2) If anyone clicks any of the numbered icons, such as 1️⃣ 2️⃣ 3️⃣ 4️⃣ 5️⃣ at any of the Product C page view examples, the view should switch to the 🟡 filter if the filter is 🔴, 🟢, or 🔵. If the user is already looking at view 🟡 or 🟣, those views should remain. (It seems like this might be tough to do; if so, let me know, and we could nix this request).

Thanks for considering my break-the-ice project. And I really appreciate your insights not only for this project but for other questions I have had. I imagine I’ll have other, modular, freelance projects associated with the site, such as possibly related to the “Red Sox navigation” inquiry you responded to a couple of months ago. I’ll cross that bridge if/when I get there. And I’m sure other needs will arise.

Please give me a quote for this project and how you normally get paid. For example, I have worked with freelancer.com in the past for other mainly quick-hitter projects not related to Blocs. But I’m fine paying you directly to cut out the middle man as I already trust you from your interactions and status at the forum. You and Eldar are my go-to guys, hehe.

An unrelated question (concern): I’m surprised this demo file is about 2MB. That seems large for the little contained in this demo site. If I had say 100 product pages with real pictures…wouldn’t the site become unwieldy? Before adding the five duplicate pages for Product C, the site was about 1.3 MB. So adding each add’l page added over 100K. Does Blocs have a MB limit before it starts getting buggy? Is there a way to compact the website? Or what takes up so much space? Id’s? Classes? Number of pages? Toggling? I would have thought multimedia. Maybe the picture placeholders are taking up more space than I would have anticipated.

Punt,
Jim :)
